In my first post, I linked to a poem by Hart Crane. “These fine collapses” is a phrase from Chaplinesque. Hart Crane’s is a beautiful, achingly hopeful, yet difficult story. The point, I think, is to dwell on the beautiful, hopeful part. At any rate, things seem to go more smoothly when I can manage it.
The poem is about, among other things, vulnerability. A fine thing to acknowledge, instead of trying always to be best at this or the other thing, is that we’re much more alike than different. We all collapse, on occasion, then we try to get back up. A collapse can even be fine because we made a try at least. And, while you’re down there, the pavement can surprise you.
